ProGen Adopts SnapGene Software
SnapGene Viewer allows ProGen customers to view sequences and restriction maps.
Chicago, IL – October 2
GSL Biotech announced today that the Tel Aviv-based company, ProGen, Protein and Gene Engineering, has adopted SnapGene for for the design and documentation of new plasmids and for sequence analysis. ProGen now provides sequences and restriction maps to their customers exclusively using SnapGene’s .dna file format.
Dr. Oded Edelheit, CTO and General Manager of ProGen, said: “We have evaluated many open source and commercial software for design and presentation of new plasmid maps that we provide to our customers mainly in academic biomedical research and biotech companies. In the final analysis we chose SnapGene as we found its graphical presentation most intuitive for molecular biologists. The graphic plasmid maps of SnapGene communicate simply and beautifully the elements within plasmid maps, and the software has the intelligence to identify many of the critical elements automatically. SnapGene also helps in our plasmid design as we use its tools such as primer design for Gibson assembly in our daily work.
“Our customers can view the maps we provide in SnapGene’s .dna file format using the freely available SnapGene Viewer. So far, all of our customers have embraced SnapGene as the molecular biology design and presentation tool. Thus, SnapGene has become the de facto standard for our routine work or communicating information about cloned DNAs.”
Aline Glick, Vice President of Product Management at GSL Biotech, said: “We set out to create a powerful research tool, as well as a standard file format to help researchers share their data. I’m delighted that ProGen has adopted SnapGene for their own work, and that they have chosen our .dna file format to share their data with customers. Companies and individual researchers are increasingly using SnapGene and SnapGene Viewer to share their data, and we are pleased to add ProGen to that list.”
About GSL Biotech
GSL Biotech was founded by scientists and software designers to meet the everyday needs of molecular biologists. GSL’s SnapGene software (snapgene.com) provides a simple yet powerful way for researchers to plan, visualize, document, and share their everyday molecular biology procedures. Free trials of the software are available from the SnapGene website.
In addition to the fully functional paid product, GSL Biotech offers the free SnapGene Viewer, which includes the key visualization tools of SnapGene, and allows researchers to make DNA maps and design primers. The annotated sequence files can be shared with colleagues or customers.
