Version 0.4.2

Changes in version 0.4.2 (Jun 24, 2010)

New Functionality

  • Features view now displays translations, notes, and other information
  • Kamino now supports discontinuous features
  • Kamino now supports GenBank style qualifier feature attributes
  • A new Delete Feature Segment command provides a convenient way to define an intron
  • A new “Import from GenBank” command allows you to enter an accession number and retrieve the data as a Kamino file.
  • Versatile sorting in features view can now be performed using the “Sort Feature List” command
  • The Description Panel has been revised to improve compatibility with GenBank.
  • You can now easily insert greek letters and symbols into segment names.
  • Those cumbersome USB dongles are on the way out. Contact us at registration@gslbiotech.com for a software-based registration code.

Enhancements

  • Updated the feature format to match GenBank conventions. For example, a feature is now either translated or not translated, so introns are represented as gaps. Added support for a slew of missing GenBank feature types. Only certain features types can now be translated. Directionality is also limited based on the current feature type. Features created using earlier version of Kamino should be converted automatically.
  • Streamlined controls in the Make and Edit Feature dialogs
  • Kamino can now simulate PCR using overlapping primers
  • Vastly improved GenBank import and export filters.
  • When opening GenBank sequences you no longer have to confirm the topology
  • When opening a GenBank file, if no DNA is encountered Kamino now shows an error message and refuses to open the sequence.
  • Improved pliancy and selection of individual feature segments. You can select individual feature segments within sequence, map, enzymes and history views by holding the Opt/Alt key.
  • Improved rendering of text in circular maps
  • Enhanced printing of the Description panel
  • Improved printed page headers and footers
  • Removed the run-on arrow shown in sequence view for features that run to but do not include their stop codon.
  • The ladder control in the Simulate Gel dialog is now broken up into sections by supplier.
  • Improved layout of ladder units when simulating Gels
  • The “Show translations” icon in the side tool bar now refreshes to reflect the option (top strands, bottom strands, ORFs only, etc.) that has been chosen.
  • To avoid needless clutter, “Source” type features, which often span the entire sequence, are no longer transferred to the product when performing cloning, PCR, and Primer Based mutagenesis
  • When changing the Source Organism to E. Coli, if methylation is missing Kamino now shows a warning.
  • Improved default window size and placement when using computers with smaller screens.
  • Various icon, color, textual, and alignment enhancements.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that prevented opening some MapDraw files
  • Fixed a bug that resulted in a warning dialog being shown when toggling a feature visibility on even though features were enabled in Map and Sequence views.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented Kamino from properly computing melting temperatures if the primer or binding site contained one or more lower case characters.
  • Fixed a bug that resulted in an incorrect feature count being shown in Features view while zooming.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented scrolling the hybridization preview up using the up arrow button on the vertical scroll bar in the Make/Edit Primer and Primer Based Mutagenesis dialogs.
  • Fixed a bug where the PCR and Primer Based Mutagenesis dialogs would sometimes get stuck and fail to allow the user to proceed despite valid options been entered.
  • Fixed a bug on Windows Vista/7 that prevented the uninstaller from working.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the Kamino from properly opening large GenBank files properly.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the window list from properly refreshing and could cause Kamino to crash when trying to switch to a specific window.
  • Fixed a bug where if you selected 3 features, two with varying colors, one with no color, where the no color feature was in the middle, features view would incorrectly not displaying a checker button for the selected features’ color.
