What People Are Saying
I love SnapGene and have totally switched to it from GCK. It is very intuitive and easy to work with. Each file contains full information about the DNA: history, primers, etc. Also, it gives you all the necessary information while designing a primer (Tm, GC content) so that you can immediately adjust it. The display of enzymes is very convenient and contains detailed information. Action options allow one to do virtual cloning and plan screening. Overall, it is the best software I've used so far--it saves a lot of time, making cloning much easier.

SnapGene Supports Gibson Assembly

SnapGene now provides rich and interactive simulation of Gibson Assembly™.

Chicago, IL – February 28

GSL Biotech announced today that the company's molecular biology software, SnapGene®, has been enhanced to support simulation of the popular Gibson Assembly method for DNA cloning.

Gibson Assembly was invented by Daniel Gibson in 2009, and has been growing in popularity since then. For Gibson Assembly, the DNA segments to be joined are amplified by PCR to create overlapping ends. Then the amplified products are incubated with assembly enzymes, and the mixture is transformed into bacteria. SnapGene simplifies Gibson Assembly by automating the primer design, as demonstrated in a brief video.

Aline Glick, Vice President of Product Management at GSL Biotech, said, “SnapGene is in constant development to keep up with the latest emerging technologies. The scientists at GSL are fans of Gibson Assembly, and many of our customers requested support for this method. We are pleased to report that the design of a Gibson Assembly procedure is now easy and intuitive. Just choose the fragments you want to join, and SnapGene does the rest.”

About GSL Biotech

GSL Biotech was founded by scientists and software designers to meet the everyday needs of molecular biologists. GSL's SnapGene software ( provides a powerful way for researchers to plan, visualize, document, and share their everyday molecular biology procedures. Free trials of the software are available from the SnapGene website.

In addition to the fully functional paid product, GSL Biotech offers the free SnapGene Viewer, which includes the key visualization tools of SnapGene, and allows researchers to make DNA maps and design primers. The annotated sequence files can be shared with colleagues or customers.
