New Functionality

  • Automatically detect and annotate over 100 common features
  • Browse and customize common features
  • SnapGene can now import DNAssist files
  • Added Fermentas FastDigest® Enzymes
  • You can now deregister a computer from the Registration dialog. Forgot your registration code? No problem, click the “Log In” link and log in to your account online to recover your lost registration code or manage your account.
  • Improved GenBank import and export: -now exporting and importing directionality, cleavage arrows, and the sequence author. -now importing ApE encoded feature attributes such as directionality and segment colors. -when importing generic GenBank files we use enhanced colors for detected common features. -various other enhancements
  • You can now specify the default sequence author for new files in the Preferences dialog. By default your group name will be used.
  • Added “Tutorials” to the Help menu.
  • Replaced “Send Feedback…” command in the Help menu with “Ask for Help…”, “Report a Bug…” and “Make a Suggestion…” links to contact forms on the new web site. As a result you can now send feedback without having an email program setup on your computer.

Enhancements

  • The chosen enzyme set is now show at the lower left of Sequence View.
  • The Windows installer and uninstaller are now code signed which should result is more toned down UAC dialogs on Windows Vista and 7.
  • In the New DNA File and Insert and Replace Bases dialogs, you can now make selections and copy them to the clipboard when the “Reverse Complement” checkbox is checked.
  • Links to the releases page, which requires a username and password, now include the username and password automatically.
  • Added a “Sorry, that sequence cannot be edited.” message box if you try editing a document within a read-only context (e.g. a cloning dialog).
  • Added branding to print outs and exported maps and history trees.
  • When performing a search if no matches are found this is now more visible with the user of an alert box.
  • Dialogs are now placed slightly offer center instead of directly over document windows.
  • Various textual, color and alignment enhancements.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that could cause the program to crash when opening GenBank files. (Reported by Thomas Quinn)
  • Fixed a bug with the GenBank importer that could result in erroneously origin-spanning features.
  • Fixed a bug that could prevent SnapGene from importing features from another file that match in a rotated format.
  • Fixed a bug where when importing features form another file, translations and related qualifiers were not automatically populated.
  • Fixed vertical expansion in New DNA File dialog
  • Fixed a bug that could result in content to be pained too far down in Features and Primers views after resizing, scrolling, and resizing the window.
  • Fixed various bugs with identifying anonymous statistics. Anonymous statistics are now sent once daily as long as the application remains running.
  • Fixed various bugs with converting HTML encoded rich text to plain text for exporting or printing.
  • Fixed the print options dialog to only show options for views and other content that is actually available to be printed.
  • Fixed a bug where cleavage arrows could be listed in non-numerical order when using the “Remove cleavage arrow” sheet within the Edit Feature dialog.
  • Fixed a bug with updating the cursor position after inserting bases the upstream end of a linear sequence while using the Edit DNA Ends dialog.
  • Fixed a bug where when using a modal dialog the “Summary of Calculation Methods” action in the Primers menu should be disabled.
  • Fixed a bug where when using an alternative start codon, that letter code was not showing up as a red M in Features View.
  • Fixed a regression where when pasting content into the New DNA File dialog we should silently strip out space characters.
  • Fixed a bug with showing protein search results that involve a match within a translated feature that uses a reading frame other +/- 1.
  • Fixed a bug with displaying long sequences within the New DNA File and Insert and Replace Bases dialogs.
  • Fixed a bug where the /direction qualifier, if present, could get out of sync with feature directionality.
  • Fixed a bug where when exporting a sequence in GenBank format, non-breaking Unicode line spaces were not always being converted ASCII spaces.
  • Fixed various bugs with importing various RTF encoded files.
